The Sheppard Pratt School - Rockville- Primary Program is a year round program that serves students age five-15 with autism spectrum disorder and other related disorders. Students are taught in highly structured, self-contained classrooms utilizing a variety of strategies including: discrete trial, direct instruction, play based instruction, motor skill development, sensory integration strategies, natural aided language stimulation, community based instruction, and positive behavioral support.

As an Assistant Principal you:

• Manage and coordinate a number of administrative roles that are critical to the success of the school. 
• May be responsible for, depending on staffing and school needs, managing staffing and daily coverage; policy compliance; instructional training and mentoring of new and experienced staff; classroom instructional observation; management of students in academic or behavioral crisis; supervision and coordination of the Individual Education Plans (IEP) process; administering diagnostic, educational and state-mandated assessments; coordination of interim and report card grades; and supervision of assigned educational staff.
• Assume decision-making responsibilities in absence of School Principal.
• May be responsible for direct classroom instruction as needed

Requires:

• Master's degree and possessing or demonstrating eligibility for (through application within 60 days of employment) Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) certification in specific subject area in secondary education, Special Education, or Administration at time of appointment and continually while in position.
• 3 years of progressively more responsible experience in a special education setting (i.e. knowledge of techniques of behavior management, special education teaching techniques and methodologies, supervisory and administrative duties, etc.).
• Strong interpersonal skills to work cooperatively and effectively with a wide array of professionals in helping to develop treatment and educational goals and strategies, and to interact with students with autism.
